A brief introduction

Before you turn your Facebook Messenger Chat into a book, you first have to download a copy of your conversations from Facebook.

This is a native Facebook function that every Facebook user has access to.

The file you download from Facebook contains all your Facebook chats. You can then upload the chat you want to turn into a book to zapptales.

We‘ll now show you how to download this file in 7 steps.

Important note: We recommend that you export your Facebook data and upload your chat to zapptales on your PC, as the process is much clearer and more convenient. However, you can also perform these steps on your cell phone or in the Facebook app.

Important note: Due to an update from Facebook, we are currently unable to process Facebook chats. We are working to resolve the issue over the next few weeks. If you have any questions, our support team will be happy to help you 😊

And this is how it works…

Step 1

Open the following link on your computer and then click on “Request Download”: https://www.facebook.com/dyi/

(Please note that you may be asked to log in to Facebook.)

Please enter the following address in your PC’s web browser and then click on “Request Download”: https://www.facebook.com/dyi/

Step 2

If you also have an Instagram account, select only your Facebook account here so that only Facebook messages are exported in the next step.

Then click on “Next”.

Step 3

Now select the “Select types of information” option so that you can export only the messages from Facebook in the next step.

Step 4

Now select the “Messages” option here and then click “Next”.

Step 5

In this step, if you want, you can select a desired period for the chat export. If you don’t, the entire period of your messages will be exported automatically.

Please make sure that “HTML” is selected under “Format” and “Medium” is selected under “Media Quality”.

Then click on “Submit request”.

Step 6

Great! You have just requested an export of your Facebook messages.

As soon as your data is ready for download, you’ll receive a notification from Facebook. This process usually takes only 10 to 20 minutes.

Step 7

Once your Facebook messages are ready to download, you can click “Download” here. A ZIP file containing your Facebook Messenger chats will then be downloaded to your PC.

Please note: Do not unpack the ZIP file you just downloaded. If you unpack it, you won’t be able to upload it to zapptales.
